Blind Willie McTell CDs If Robert Johnson can be crowned as the King of the Delta blues then surely Blind Willie McTell was the King of the Georgia blues. Blind Willie McTell possessed one of the truly distinctive voices in the blues and was arguably the most accomplished player of the demanding 12-string guitar. His mastery of the instrument resulted in showpieces of deep blues, exquisite rags and superbly controlled bottleneck slide guitar which can be found throughout the three Document volumes of his early recordings. The third volume in this series brings us to Blind Willie McTell’s last commercial sessions during the “pre-war blues” era. His friend, fellow Atlanta blues guitarist / singer Curley Weaver, joins him on several of the recordings resulting in some fine guitar interchanges, most notably Southern Can Mama, Cold Winter Day and Your Time to Worry. Blind Willie’s wife Kate joins him on six tracks including the uplifting Ain’t It Grand To Be A Christian and the cautionary God Don’t Like It. Together, Document’s three volumes reveal Blind Willie McTell as one of the most versatile and accomplished country blues artists to have recorded. Includes informative booklet notes by Alan Balfour plus detailed discography.
